Hamish Campbell<p><strong>Why the Fediverse Needs a Connection Between Mainstreaming and Grassroots</strong></p> One of the best things about the Fediverse is that real people and community's get to choose what kind of digital paths they want to take. Don’t want #Meta snooping around? Join or host an instance that blocks them out. Prefer not to have people search your content? Lock it down in your settings. Want to mediate the strong #blinded flow of “normies”? Close the doors via your instance settings. It’s a "nativist" system that offers a radical degree of agency compared to the […] <p><a href="https://hamishcampbell.com/why-the-fediverse-needs-a-connection-between-mainstreaming-and-grassroots/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">hamishcampbell.com/why-the-fed</span><span class="invisible">iverse-needs-a-connection-between-mainstreaming-and-grassroots/</span></a></p>
Hamish Campbell<p><strong>Balance, Activism, Tension, Reframing, Extremism, To Cultivating Change</strong></p> The paths of the challenges we face in activism lies in the dynamic tension between the “fluffy” and “spiky”, two forces that shape the progress and direction of movements. The fluffy path leans into compassion, empathy, and collective care, while the spiky path channels righteous anger and confrontation. Both are essential, like two hands working together to break the soil for new growth. It’s vital to resist the dogmatic tendencies that demand purity in one direction or the […] <p><a href="https://hamishcampbell.com/balance-activism-tension-reframing-extremism-to-cultivating-change/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">hamishcampbell.com/balance-act</span><span class="invisible">ivism-tension-reframing-extremism-to-cultivating-change/</span></a></p>
hamish campbell<p>It's interesting that in most conversations on "paying for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openwebtools" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>openwebtools</span></a> and applications" there is the "common sense" that everyone should PAY for there way. </p><p>This is of course a deeply illogical <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mainstreaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mainstreaming</span></a> view that is a bad fit for the actual <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>openweb</span></a> we want to build. </p><p>In this, we are <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/blinded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blinded</span></a> to the change and challenge actually needed. We do need to get around to talking about this <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/OMN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OMN</span></a></p>
witchescauldron<p>In activism (and interestingly less so in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/mainstreaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mainstreaming</span></a> life now) <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/stupidindividualism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stupidindividualism</span></a> is a constant poison. With <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/blinded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blinded</span></a>, people treat critical social thinking as ONLY personal criticism. This has the effect of <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/blocking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blocking</span></a> that spreads mess over the very needed social change and challenge. Am increasingly using the&nbsp; <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dontbeaprat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dontbeaprat</span></a> hashtag to communicate on this problem.</p><p>I think another useful hashtag on this behaviour is <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/blinded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blinded</span></a>, which is in part self-inflicted and in part a general social outcome of the last 40 years of worshipping <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/postmodernism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>postmodernism</span></a> and <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/neoliberalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neoliberalism</span></a>. The hashtag <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/deathcult" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deathcult</span></a> is a useful "uncomfortable" way of expressing this.</p><p>Why is this such an issue, people are directly responsible for this mess making, as both of these ideologies are actually dead themselves now. It's an intellectual&nbsp; zombie block.</p><p>So <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dontbeaprat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dontbeaprat</span></a> is a positive statement of what's next?</p><p>Please <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/dontbeaprat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dontbeaprat</span></a> on this, thanks.</p>
hamish campbell<p>I think another good hashtag on this behaviour is <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/blinded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blinded</span></a> this is in part self inflicted and a part a general social outcome of the last 40 years of <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/postmodernism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>postmodernism</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/neoliberalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neoliberalism</span></a> which I use the hashtag <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/deathcult" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deathcult</span></a> to express.</p><p>People are directly responsible for this mess making as both of these ideologies are actually dead themselves now...</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dontbeaprat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dontbeaprat</span></a> what's next?</p>
vagabond<p>Nuts and nutters comes to mind, you do realise that you are expressing a <a href="https://campaign.openworlds.info/tags/blinded" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>blinded</span></a> ideology yourself, humans are meaning creating creatures, one way we talk about this is ideology" there are others <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synonym" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synonym</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>.</p>
