B.ellaThis is the "Drachenfels", a place that as of now will be very special to me. Just three weeks ago it seemed unthinkable for me to climb/walk to a height of 570 metres. The ascent is quite steep and leads over partly unpaved forest paths and trails. But I was determined to get to the very top. And I made it!
The name of this mountain is associated with the dragon from the Nibelungen saga. Below the rock, which juts out far to the south-east and is made of red sandstone, there are two caves; the small one is called the "Dragon's Chamber", the larger one the "Dragon's Cave". In the south-western part of the plateau, remains of a late Roman fortification from the third century have survived.
Photo 9 shows how far up the rock is situated. Such a beautiful place.
